Course Description

Always beating yourself up? Telling yourself you’re wrong or stupid or thinking you’re not as good as other people?

Self-depreciation (or self-deprecation) is a common problem for many. Strongly held negative beliefs about self and our relationship with others often leads sufferers to present themselves as lesser than others or attempt to be socially invisible. The net effect of this is to create a sense of “feeling bad” about oneself combined with feelings of unappreciation and frustration. This video demonstrates bestselling author and therapist Professor Windy Dryden using CBT with a client who suffers from these very problems. Observe how he expertly guides the client to understanding how their current life strategies compound his problems and then how he guides him to a constructive route to solving them.

The structure of this video:

Consultant Clinical Psychologist Paul Grantham interviews Professor Windy Dryden on his perspective of helping clients struggling with problems relating to self-depreciation. Professor Dryden shares his views and ideas on the topic, mainly concentrating on the application of CBT and in particular Single Session Integrated CBT to work with this group of clients.

This is then followed by an expert demonstration of the use of the principles discussed in the interview by Prof. Dryden working with in a LIVE client session with a REAL client. The session starts, unfolds and finishes in front of the viewer. Prof. Dryden does not have any additional information about the client before he starts the session.

This video is specifically designed as a TRAINING TOOL for everyone who works with clients and wants to learn more about CBT as an evidence-based and effective therapeutic approach.

Suitable for counsellors, psychotherapists, psychologists, teachers, and everyone involved in the caring professions and those working with understanding and changing clients’ cognitions and behaviours.
