Course Description
Are things never quite good enough … no matter what you do? Do you believe that anything less than perfection is terrible?
Perfectionism is a fast-track route to unhappiness and has been strongly associated with depression and eating disorders amongst other mental health problems. Rigid standards that are impossible to meet and a strongly negative internal critic creates a toxic mix that can have a chronic pathological effect. This video demonstrates bestselling author and therapist Professor Windy Dryden using CBT with a client who suffers from these very problems. Observe how he expertly guides the client to understanding how their current life strategies compound her problems and then how he guides her to a constructive route to solving them.
The structure of this Video:
Consultant Clinical Psychologist Paul Grantham interviews Professor Windy Dryden on his perspective of helping clients struggling with problems relating to perfectionism. Professor Dryden shares his views and ideas on the topic mainly concentrating on the application of CBT to work with this group of clients.
This is then followed by an expert demonstration of the use of the principles discussed in the interview by Prof. Dryden working with in a LIVE client session with a REAL client. The session starts, unfolds and finishes in front of the viewer. Prof. Dryden does not have any additional information about the client before he starts the session.
After the session, Consultant Clinical Psychologist Paul Grantham interviews Professor Windy Dryden again, analysing and deconstructing key aspects of the session.
This video is specifically designed as a TRAINING TOOL for everyone who works with clients and wants to learn more about CBT as an evidence-based and effective therapeutic approach.
Suitable for counsellors, psychotherapists, psychologists, teachers, and everyone involved in the caring professions and those working with understanding and changing clients’ cognitions and behaviours.
